Wordpress Yoast SEO 'Focuk KW' - Simple Question?

In Wordpress SEO by Yoast, there is an option to input a 'Focus KW' for each post in the post editor.

I have a question, for example, say I write this post.

mybestsite.com/somesite-guide

Now, will my Focus KW be:

1) Somesite

OR

2) Somesite Guide


Basically, I wonder if it's 'Focus KW (as in, keyworD)', or it can be keywordS??? I believe that 2 words would be fine, the plugin even throws suggestions, when you write your Focus KW for example "somesite" it will give you a drop-down of words people mostly search for, so I believe that you'd go with "Somesite Guide" following the above example...

Can anyone confirm?

You don't need to use the focus kw option to get results.

Einstein...the keyword should be the one YOU want to rank. Have you even checked the competition, CPC, search volume...etc etc?

No, no, and no.

I write for myself and for people, not for search engines and money...

If I write a killer article, better than most, and my site is properly optimized and follows the best SEO practices (No reason to get penalized), then the competition really does not interest me... Besides, I am not here to compete, there's enough for all...

And the search volume doesn't really interest me either, I'm making an Authority website, so looking at the big picture the search volume is huge... No point wasting my time...

But, would you put:

"somesite review" or "somesite" in the focus kw?

Just tell me your pick, and my question is answered.

I guess you would say that it depends if there is more searches being done for "somesite", or for "somesite review", right? And you'd pick the one that gets more searches, right?

I used to enter those KWs to fill in that field before, random KWs, what the article is about. Now, I don;t do anymore, totally not thinking about it, but use long tail KWs

Focus keyword is the one you want to rank. It helps Yoast calc keyword density, setup your metadescription, etc.

Yes, true, it's necessary for Yoast to calculate kw density and a bunch of other stuff concerning the SEO of your post...

I also use this field in in Yoast, just to make sure I don't get past the 3.8% keyword density. After that, I just focus on making the article worth reading.

I first write the article and upload compressed pictures... Then I start, custom permalink, optimized title, custom meta desc, images alt tags, title tags, captions sometimes, etc etc etc...

But I never change the article I've written just to make it "SEO optimized", nah... Unless the article I've written has a major issue that may catch google's attention negatively. Although, I keep a balance between SEO and readability when writing my articles, I keep those things in mind, and I always lean more towards readability...
