Does a page or post work/rank differently in WP?

page is like a static site , if you are planning for a micro niche site a sniper site where you are not planning to update the content frequently or there is no scope for content updation then go for a page and if there is frequent content updating then go for post.
i have ranked site with page . I also add blog in there (post) as a support if the visitor want to see more details on that product .
you could also use the wordpress post as stick so that the post that you selected will always show up in the front page just like a static site and you will get the benefit of blog/post like tags , in page you cannot add tag is suppose.
hope this helps

Depending on the theme, pages and posts will show up in diff. places.. I always keep pages as the main beef of the site, and then posts about related info. Pages also for product promos.

I would like to know more about this too

Confused

I use "page" for anything that is fairly static or not time sensitive like service pages. Pages typically will go in your navigation bar whereas posts usually will not.

I use posts to provide details about the pages. For example, if I had a dentist as a client, I would put teeth whitening, dental implants, wisdom teeth extraction, and invisalign as service pages with general details and benefits of each procedure. I would then write blog article explaining highly specific details about the procedure, answering FAQs, etc.

One benefit of blog posts is being able to use categories/tags as they help aggregate common articles together. Back to the dentist example, frequently, the category or tag pages would rank better than the "services" page because there were 5-6 articles about the topic. \
