wordpress wants my domain lol

wtf.. i got an email from wordpress lawyers today because my domain infringes on their trademark using 'wordpress' in the url.. how fucking gay my list was just picking up fast! i doubt i am gonna transfer the shit.. what do you guys think? just take down the domain or redirect it to something without wordpress in it?

Switch all your information and subscribers to a new domain and give them what they want. There's no use giving them trouble because those lawyers are on salary NOT paid by the hour. So they don't care how long it takes, they'll get what they want.

First and most important, verify that this is actually coming from an authorized representative of WP. Sometimes legal threats demanding names are sent from scammers who are not who they claim to be.

ask them if they would like to buy it, say they might own the copy right but i own the domain, tell them you will sell them the domain, i would leave the site up, get them stewing on it, and wait for there reply

Its 100% legit no questions asked.. I think i am just gonna have to take it down.. i'm not transferring shit to them. Should done a bit more homework, if it was blackhat site i wouldn't give a shit but i spent a lot of time building up content/links and it was ranking extremely well.. Oh well my fault.

may you can set up this site under a new domain and 301 redirects the old one? try to ask if that could be ok for them..

I wonder that they got you, because there are so many domains containign wordpress in it..

i am not sure.. i dont want to push the envelope too hard here, its not like i am making hundreds a day off this site.. it is fairly new but was doing really good.. the only other thing i am worried about is my other 3-4 domains that have wordpress in them.. they never mentioned anything about the other sites only this 1, but i am assuming since they warned me on 1 site i am responsible for knowing to take down the others...

I am not sure about the laws in the US on this topic but in Europe it matters what it is you do with the domain.
I could buy IWindows dot com and use it as a blog, pron site or whatever as long as I do nothing that has anything to do with Apple or Windows.

But seriously? You need a lawyer in RL.

Yep - I had a guy try that stunt - I just told him to email me from the company not some gmail account !!!

Lawyers don't send emails. Email notification is NOT a legal notice. Watch your mail box.

I wouldn't reply to the email. Rather I would print it out, frame it, and hang in on the wall for the smile factor.
