Hi,

So I've been wondering- Would you choose Wordpress over Wix and why?

I've been creating my new blog with Wordpress (and Hostgator) and even though it's not hard, I just find Wix way more user-friendly and easier to handle. But I do realize that most people actually use Wordpress and not Wix and I'm not sure why. SEO reasons? Design?

Can someone enlighten me please? Thanks :)

I started on Squarespace way back in the day, and it is sort of similar to Wix (especially then). I eventually got so frustrated with the limitations of the platform that I escaped to Wordpress. I can't imagine going back to a platform where I couldn't change any of the code however I want like wix, but with wordpress you can change almost everything, especially if you learn to code. If you're starting out and trying to figure out the content side, wix is probably okay, but I would save time and stick with wordpress because you'll eventually have to move your sites there, anyway.

Wordpress is far more intutive and comes with great features and functionality than Wix. I always prefer WordPress over Wix.

Wordpress is, in fact, better in general and for SEO, too.
Wix may be good for starters, but when you'll realize that you need to have more functions and you need to switch the CMS, it won't be easy since Wix doesn't give you access and you'll need to manually switch it page by page

Wix may be easy to use, but I'd say WordPress is the way to go when it comes to optimization.

Design? Well, yeah. There are loads of templates readily available for WP. Not really being biased, but using WP for so many years made me used to it... and love it. :)

Wix is TERRIBLY slow. No matter how easy their CMS is, their pagespeed instantly disqualifies them as an option for me.

They don't give you a way to download your own content? I've never used Wix because it seemed pointless, but I had no idea it was that bad. At least Squarespace let me download an xml of my text, though images were annoying to move.

Well, I haven't used Wix myself since I've read reviews that state that Wix doesn't give you access to the code. At least, here's what the Help Center states:

"Your Wix site and all of its content is hosted exclusively on Wix's servers, and cannot be transferred elsewhere.
Specifically, it is not possible to export or embed files, pages or sites, created using the Wix Editor or ADI, to another external destination or host.
It is also not possible to embed your Wix site onto an external site."

Wix vs WordPress is not an easy decision, especially if you are starting off with building websites. is not an easy decision, especially if you are starting off with building websites. but for me still Wordpress

Wordpress is the best when it comes to SEO and cleaner designs. WP is frequently used by established blog sites. If you are just starting out, Wix may be the right path, however, it depends on your niche and long-term goals.

I will choose wordpress because it has many useful plugins for SEO website

WP is more preferable by bloggers as it offers custom features the other CMSs do not have. You can do more things with WP

I think both are useful and depending on what you are trying to achieve. I personally do not like hosting my site on those platform, as they have TOS and alot of mumbo jumbo that could land your site in trouble one way or another, and hence data loss & loss in revenue.
Hosting your own WP site would be much better and offer more flexibility and it has lesser chances of the ban hammer, thus better survivability of your site.

Expandability.

You get a directory going in minutes, import AliExpress products in seconds. You can setup a woocommerce shop that beats any Shopify store and it's a lot cheaper.

Here are so many plugins to extend WP it's not even a question.
