Do you build websites using WordPress or from scratch?

WordPress. Can't see a single valid reason why anyone doing IM would build a site from scratch.

I'd do a static site only if it's not going to change in the foreseeable future. And I can always install the WP in a subdirectory. How does that sound?

Wordpress for sure. If you just want a 1 page landing page situation then you can code it up from scratch but for a website it's a lot of unneeded effort in most cases.
