I got a video site thats running on wordpress and now wondering if it was best to use wordpress as a
cms for a video site since the site now tops 10k unique a day. havent had any major issues though do run into
problems with server load and cache problems, that causing problems with plugins and then the plugins causing the site to run slow.

should i continue using wordpress or opt for a costom cms?

also, anyone else running big video viral sites using wordpress?

thanks all for help

Wordpress is recommended. Try to use cache and use CDN like amazon or maxcdn. I don't recommend using lot of plugins but try to minify the codes to make the site run faster.

amazon offers 1 year of free trial to use their cdn . It makes site faster . I can be able to give more suggestions If I can have a look at your website.

A Custom CMS will definitely beat wordpress as there will be much less PHP queries but you'll lose the possibilities to extend your site via plugins. There are several big sites running on Wordpress like fortune and techcrunch. You can continue with Wordpress if you know to optimize it.

I personally would recommend sticking with wordpress. Just make sure you have a good server hosting your website and you will be fine.

I found this article on Custom CMS that you might want to take a look at: search "why would i write your own cms" and check out the article and discussion on sitepoint. Its has lots of good info on the topic.

Tried using CDN cloudflare, ran into problems immediately. Didnt try again after that scare.
Cache plugs like WTC are life savers. Plugins I use are necessary eg. view count / likes.
At the moment optimization has helped. I still prefer wordpress because I have learned a lot and am comfortable.
Just thinking of future growth.

That is exactly whats on my mind. My concern is that since wordpress has all these extra features that the site dont need, it might be best to use a custom CMS or a CMS already built for this stuff. Like lots of stuff in wordpress slows the site down.

+1 for Wordpress, You have plenty of resources/options/plugins with wordpress. Make sure you have decent hosting!

I have read somewhere in this post that a custom script is better than WordPress. IMHO its true. The word custom itself explains a lot. But it won't be much flexible and on the other hand WordPress promises a lot and can be customized easily with a little knowledge of languages like php and css. But don't panic if you don't know these langs, there are a lot plugins and a heavy community to fight for you.

I used to have a wordpress page but they got hacked all the time =/

I only use word press to get the project going, while i am working on the real website built by scratch, with inline css javascript, php, ajax, mysql,
If needed.

only ever use xhtml and strict.

On page seo, and local optimization, exact keyword , and long tail keywords.1 articles each day 900 words, long keyword added used once in article,5 blog a day keyword used twice, 50 dripped back links to blogs and articles that it links from articles and blogs to money page.add a bit of absence , drip feed bookmarking websites 50 a day, around 3 months i get around 90.000 page hits a day on most projects. advance traffic boosting i add video around 5 videos all properly optimized to key words, add a Facebook account and twitter account and a StumbleUpon account and printest account.and google +, all accounts fill in bio and link to my money site.

domain name has to be over 10 years old and getting good metrics.

for even more traffic find domain just expired getting grate traffic for head start.

absence.
cpc around $3.60(keyword value using keyword tools(metrics main advantage.)
money hits around 3000 a month (around 7 thousand bounce rate)total 11.000 hits per month.
income around $2700 month, each project from above info.

Most of plugins if it is issue can be deleted and replaced with code, I do not think that your custom script will have less wholes, it is all depend on your coding ability btwl, I see nothing wrong using wordpress, you can hide wp using if you need.

there no learning cure for word press it all click and go , but designing the website from scratch is a learning curve ,
it all up to the individual, knowing what your doing is more powerfully then pressing a button.

word press plugin are grate, if you dont no how to set the setting your self with your own code, but in general word pess is a lazy way to just get a project going and the ability to add plugins to advance it, but the ultimate goal is to program it all from scratch knowing what going on fully.

word press = easy useability plug and play.

Wordpress is much better just get a better hosting!
