It would take some work in the code of your theme, but it could be removed. I don't like using SEO plugins, but you can remove it using that as well. I think All in one SEO plugin will use it.

Where is the | located? If its in the title, or description, it could be in the settings part of WP or if you have a SEO plugin or theme which overrides the default WP settings, it will be in there.

    The title separator?
    Code:
    %%sep%%
That's the variable for the title separator.

I think it's represented by $sep = "|"; in the code. I'm not sure if you can just remove the "|" and leave it blank, but I suppose you can give it a try.

Yeah, but Yoast only gives you the option to change it. I think OP wants to get rid of the title separator entirely (though I could be wrong).
