WordPress Templates

I am looking for some advice on wordpress templates, I have found that a large number of micro niche sites use what can only be described as awful wordpress templates; any visitor to the site would immediately understand that the page was designed for advertising rather than providing information.

I want to make an aesthetically pleasing micro niche site that provides genuinely useful information, but I want to make money, it is not a charity! I am investing time creating unique genuinely helpful content and want to present this information in the best possible light.

Does the choice of template really matter when it comes to AdSense advertising? I don't mind investing some money (or time - I am a software developer in my day job) to create a really nice wordpress template, the chances are I would actually buy one as so called premium templates are less than a hundred notes, my time is worth much more , has anyone got any recommendations on this front?

why does everyone use WORDPRESS what happened to old fashion HTML/CSS
i usually make my sites using Html and have only used wordpress a couple of times
html just gives you freedom to design your site how you want

Wordpress templates are easier to maintain and there are some great plugins, that's why! You give up some freedom and performance for some time! There are a ton of templates in the download area that appropriate for business!

I'd like a suggestion for a nice, easy to manage theme.

Using a premium theme, striking.

Don't like it - and adding html ads messes it up.

Can someone suggest a specific theme good for a beginner, and one I can add a slidesho to the homepage with?

My main money site is an ASP.NET site with a bespoke CMS I have built that integrates with sage pay, along with bespoke grouping, discount and promotion code ability, social network promotion tool and integration with GA (programmatically to pull out my own bespoke analytics dashboards in the purpose built backend CMS I have wrote). I am more than comfortable with building sites, but I do it all day long (it is my day job).

Wordpress allows me to knock up a site and publish content without the fuss of design and the tweaking I have to keep doing with a bespoke build.

You do have a fair point mind, a flat static HTML / CSS site would actually do the job just as well as a wordpress site, I have hosting (my own servers) so it would make some sense, my main issue is that (as you can prob tell) I am a software developer, not a creative person, wordpress saves me some design headache.
