I don't think the template design really matters; it's more about its build. If it applies to SEO Best practices in terms of word length, repeated keywords in H1, text, titles, etc., then in terms of SEO position, it should be good. But i ain't an expert in this field i know just a little compared to many people here

A poorly coded or bloated theme can slow a site down and hurt engagement, which can impact positioning over time, clean, lightweight, and well structured template makes it easier to optimize content and technical SEO properly. Yhe theme won’t rank your blog for you, but the wrong one can definitely hold it back

No, not really. The performance of a website is mostly affected by the quality of its content and the speed it provides. I mean, these are the two most important things among other technical aspects. And yes, these are still valid in 2026.

If it affects loading time then yes. What I mean is that the loading time of a website/blog has an impact on the SEO of the site. If a site/blog loads very fast it ranks higher. The opposite is for loading slow. So yes if you have a template that is very large and it makes the website/blog load slower, Google will rank it lower.
