Hello!

As some may know I am with blogger and have my own domain name from Godaddy and am doing OK. I just feel that after looking at Wordpress it looks like it will suite my needs better than my current set-up.

I downloaded WP and Filezilla the other day to get the ball rolling on moving my blog from blogger to WP. I also signed up with dreamhost and they gave me a free domain, although you pay for it and get the money back two weeks later. Which sucks for me because they cancelled my account because my domain name was flagged; it had a copywritten name in it...

Although they refunded me, as I am in the UK I got a fee applied to my bank account in the UK, only 1.50 and another for 19pence but still better in my pocket than my banks, so yes dreamhost will refund me but probably not that charge, it's a currency conversion charge or something. Anyway, I thought initially that the move would be smooth and easy. I remember it was easy with blogger, sign up free and start building your content. Also, you can add a domain name which I did. I am aware you can do that with wordpress too but it would be hosted by WP...I think so no real improvement if I were to do that, to my current situation.

I will have to sign up with Godaddy i think for my hosting, then try and set up Worpress. I watched some YT Instructional videos to help me but still am not 100% sure of what to do. It seems you have to add your details provided by your host to your filezilla log in and then upload your files to their server or something. I really want to get this move sorted but will wait a short while until I have sorted a host.

Thanks for your time.

Although I'm not sure what you're looking for... I'll give you a bit of free advice...

buy your domain through Godaddy at $1.99 for the first year...get your hosting through them or some other host like hostgator. Avoid the get a free domain with hosting deals. Pay for your hosting by the month instead of yearly even if it costs you a little more in the long run. If you need to change hosts you can do so at any time.

Before you sign up to a host, contact them and ask if they can help move you to their servers.
Most good hosts will do this for free.

Good tips, Thanks guys.

Yes I agree with pay per month hosting.

You don't need Filezilla to move your blog from blogger to Wordpress. You can install Wordpress right from your hosting account with scripts like Fantastico/Softaculous. From there, it's just a matter of installing this plugin into your Wordpress to import the content from your blogger blog. PM me if you need any help in moving the site, I'll do it for free.

Hey,

Yes thanks for the advice, I am with GD for my domain name and like them. Sounds a good deal I will take a look.

I have never thought about Odesk but will have a look, because I would not mind spending a little money for someone to do that transfer for me. Although, I will try doing it myself perhaps. Thanks for your time.

I asked this before on wordpress forums where they are very ehlful indded
