I noticed that Wordpress is really slow on Hostgator. I have just moved one site to the new Hostgator account. It runs slower than in the old host.
I cannot complaint about Hostgator since their support is perfect, but just loading time is not so good.
Do you have idea. I already used Super cache plugin. Not sure what I should do. Thanks for your input....

Wordpress on Host Gator is fast for me.

I just transfered one of my Wordpress Blogs from another hosting company to Host Gator. On the old hosting it would take 10 minutes for the site to update if I changed a widget around.

Now on Host Gator it's done instantly, like it should be.

ive noticed the same mate, compared with site ground anyway, which with me, if a site takes to long to load that i visit i go somewhere else .ive tryed deleting anything i dont use like old plug ins & themes which might do something .hostgator support is absolutely brilliant as you say so im hoping upgrading in the new year will do the job,if not i will have to move my sites .

I have the same problem. I've got two Hostgator accounts and one is super fast and the other one runs like a dog. Both have supercache and the same theme and plugins. Traffic for both is about the same. My theory is you have some idiot(s) like us :) with a shed load of Autoblogs pinching all the CPU on the shared server.

Good news is HG will eventually shut them down but then another 10 take their place lol

I need to admit that loading time of hostgator is not so fast. I tried site5, Lunarpages, Hostgator and Netfirms to run many wordpress sites. They are basically the same themes and plugins.
    -Site5: Work great
-Lunarpages: Always complain about CPU usage. Don't bother this hosting again.
    -Netfirms: Work great
    - Hostgator: The support is very good. Their server is so powerful. But loading time is slower than Site5 and Nerfirms.
I wrote an email for Hostgator support about this. They told me about the bad plugins which making my site slow. So my conclusion: it's actually not the plugins problem, it's because hostgator is a bit slow. That's it. :)

I got the same feedback... They are blaming the plugins about this problem.

I have the same problem on Network Solutions. Their hosting for wordpress is shit. I don't get it. For some reason, it takes like 15 seconds to" connect" to the site. After it does the initial connect, it loads very fast. There is just something stopping it from loading right away!

This is my work's website : http://www.totallawncareinc.com it uses very basic plugins and the headlines theme.
I've tried disabling all plugins and its still slow.

Anyone have any ideas? Id really appreciate it!

I am running 20 blogs on hostgator and honestly I haven't notice any problems. Check the server speed with tool if you have any doubt.

Exactly same as my sites hosted on Hostgator. This problem should be noted for all members who are considering to run Wordpress Blog. They never admit that problem so you cannot expect there is a way to solve it, I think.

@kalseo: Can you show me one of your site?

Please give url for one of your heaviest blogs on hostgator so we can see if it is as fast as you say. This will solve a lot of doubts for many here. TIA for your help. :)

Same thing happened to 2 hostgator accounts of ours at different times, when you first notice this (my experience) you only have a short amount of time before your account is suspended.

In our case if was the amount of plugins being used and the amount of posts wp-robot was making... changing wp-robot to use cron helps a lot... get rid of any plugin not important...

forget supercache and try w3totalcache, much better! use it to minimize JS and CSS... also shorten your ping list to about 20... optimize all your DB's

Who cares if he's telling the truth or not. I think maybe you want to see his site.

Anyway, I haven't had any problems but if you're on a shared server then that could be the problem. My site was slow a while back and they told me someone else was using too many resources and they TEMP banned his account. Running too many processes at the same time will make it slow.

I haven't noticed any problems with my blogs on HG. All seem to be running just fine. It is possible that someone on your server is hogging all of the resources.

I've seen similar behavior with FatCow. Standard HTML sites run quickly but the WordPress blog sites are sluggish at best. I'm guessing that all the MySQL activity on a shared host is taking its toll regarding server performance. Before I confront them I have blog sites hosted with another ISP and I will mirror that configuration there so I don't have to listen to the plugin bs. With that ISP the WordPress blogs fly!
