Wordpress is the most SEO friendly site ever.Install the "all in one SEO" plugin, optimize the title, description, tag and you are done.Also optimize your content.Don't be fooled, wordpress is highly SEO friendly than even static site, joomla, blogger, or whatever.
 
I really like the Wordpress SEO plugin by Yoast. It's the most user friendly, pretty much tells you what should be changed within your pages to help with rankings and gives you an overall SEO score. It's free too.
 
It's not what plugin you use but rather how you configure it to optimize your site. Just use any popular plugin, I prefer All-in-one SEO, then read on some onpage optimization guide. Over-optimization matters, so don't go crazy about inserting your keyword everywhere, make it look natural.
 
You can use the all in one seo plugin, but as long as you know how to optimize your posts properly, you really don't need to use a plugin.
 
For SEO I just use Yoast plugin. I believe when it comes to SEO plugins one is just enough.
 
SEO plugins allow for basic SEO, all-in-one and yoast are pretty popular, there are others as well. However, you'll have to work on the code to further optimize it in a more advanced manner, but remember that the content of the WP website is the single most important factor and where you should invest most of your time and efforts.

Wordpress is a great platform to have your site on, typically WP sites get indexed naturally by Google much faster than on other platforms from my experience!
 
I've made the switch from All-In-One to Yoast - it's more up to date, easier to use and offers more settings.

Other plugins:
SEO Images - auto adds alt and title tags for images (great for autoblogs, can do better if done manually)
Google Sitemap Generator
WP-Pagenavi - adds pagination to list pages (instead of previous/next links)
WP-Socializer - social buttons
Smush.it - optimize images (can better optimize manually via kraken.io but this works well)
w3-total-cache - speed up your site
XML Sitemaps for Videos - great if you have video sitemaps
SEO Smart Links - autolink specific keywords
 
All in One SEO/SEO Yoast - you choose.
WordPress is very well SEO optimized, but remember quality content is king!

It's good to add Social Media buttons ofcourse, especially +1 Google button!
 
Yoast plugin for wordpress is good, I also use everytime for my client website as well as my website
 
I think the All in One SEO is enough. I don't believe that WP coding is not compatible for SEO. its totally a joke.
 
All in one SEO and xml sitemaps is all I use. Also, along with configuring them I also edit the templates to customize my ops some, such as putting my target kw phrase into an h1 tag in header.php.
 
Wordpress is the best seo friendly platform and All in one seo plugin is good.
