can anyone suggest a good security plugin, i was using

All In One WP Security

but there were 100s of 403s in my redirect page in my cpanel

i used wordfence or whatever that didnt work out

WordFence is generally the go to pluggin for this... What didn't work out about it?
 
Have you thought about adding it back?...

It's really good, there is minimal set up and it does a great job.

ive been hit with fake traffic from here, a member even told me who it was. screwed my server up

ive been hit with major i dont know what its called, but foreign countries send out whatever, that was major

i was hacked years ago and lost all my content

Try out cloudflare, it will stop a lot of the fake traffic.

Sign up and add the wordpress plugin. You will need to configure it to your liking.

The free account is fine.

So what exactly do you want the security plugin to do?

If it was fake traffic, try cloudflare as @Asif WILSON Khan suggested. That should block a lot of fake and bot traffic and you can even see the data on your cloudflare dashboard.

If all you get is 403 while trying to access pages even when logged in, the issue is with user permission which can be easily fixed through cPanel's file manager.

IMO WordFence is the best security plugin.
Most brute force attacks can be stopped by hiding the login/admin page.

That's was happening to me, don't think anyone got in but had a buch of failed login attempts. You can use this handy trick though your Cloudflare dashboard to set a waiting period for your login page, worked great for my blogs. After a failed login attempt, you can set a time period, helping to end/fight back against brute force attacks. I've been using Wordfence for years now, and it's a really great plugin. To stop the brute-force attacks, just rename the wp-login.php file to something else with a different extension, and whenever you want to log into your site just rename it back. :) Even if someone hacks you, they won't have a way to log into your dashboard. :D :P
 
I have been using Wordfence onseveral of my sites for years and it has worked swell. Lots of protection features and great support and security tips.
