Hey,

I hope this is a good category for me to ask this question if not feel free to move it.
I had my main money site Wordpress website go down today which is hosted on go daddy while one of my online contractors was doing some work and I had to back it up. I didn't have a backup subscription but luckily for $2 a month go daddy added it to my plan and I got access to my daily backups for the last 7 days(godaddy really has an extortion racket on your website). While we were setting up this backup plan he recommended that I purchase the security feature which detects malware, backups for 90 days instead of 7, and provides a firewall. Looks like they have a few different options at different prices.

My question is would you recommend I go with godaddy for this website security or use a third party security company or possibly a Wordpress plugin. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated thank you.

does nobody here really care about answering serious questions ? Blackhat is awesome but actually having an understanding about how the internet and web hosting works is awesome too.

i suggest you to use a plugin like updraft plus and store on a hard drive or external server as hetzner that is very affordable.

Your experience might differ but I found it waits for over 1301 seconds after every write attempt. Two hours and the plugin had done only 21%. I have tried 2-3 times but had to uninstall. Other plugins do the same task in 30-40 minutes. Though the author knows the shortcomings of the Litespeed servers ... but taking this long was vague.

Donot use any cracked plugin or theme and use 2 Fector in your website rest all things will be good

yes, it's weird.
i backup a 20 GB site every night and it uploads perfectly to Hetzner.
For me at the moment and according to my needs, it's the best.

A few things
1. GoDaddy is trash, I know you probably hear alot of people bashing on it but, it's true.
Maybe, not everything they say about it but GoDaddy is trash, the webhosting is slow and they throttle you constantly to extort more money out of you by upgrading.

My question back to you is, how much are you paying for GoDaddy Hosting? How much is your budget total
Surely, you can find something of the same price or cheaper that includes Backup + Security.
Also, for security, there are great alternatives too such as BBQ plugin

That's pure trash, majority of the reputable host providers will provide that for you, for free.
In fact, you can take a step further, there are plenty of great backup options

Personally, I use UpdraftPlus.

Personally I do not give much credit to the security plugins and malware scanners - I have used lots of them in the past including immunify 360, securi, malcare and wordfence to name a few. Malware can always get through in my experience, despite these plugins.

Best route you can take is:

  1. Always keep your website fully up to date in terms of plugins, themes and wordpress core.
  2. Install as few plugins as possible.
  3. Use a very strong password for wordpress admin.
  4. Keep your backups - I recommend 180 days or more.
  5. Test your backups fully.

Hey my friend, GoDaddy is extremely greedy... definitely don't fall into their trap. I've been a WordPress developer for over 15 years and have built, published, and optimized countless WordPress sites, and so on. For security, all I have to do is install a few useful plugins and then decide whether the other plugins I've installed are trustworthy.
