Easy-peasy. Most hosting services handle this. My current hosting did this for me so I never had to worry about it.
Assuming no links are broken, then that's fine. Otherwise 301 redirect broken link to homepage or relevant pages. Assuming your domain registrar remains the same, then it's fine. Otherwise set TTL as automatic or almost zero. Cloudflare handles this.
And of course your destination host should not be down. I use a VPS and that's never been an issue with migration. If you don't want to get your hands dirty, let your host tech support do all the hard work for you.

Best it’s to let the hosting company take care of it. And try to migrate during the hours you receive least traffic

I’d think if you asked your new host to migrate it for you they’ll be happy to help.

Like I want to move from paying exorbitant WordPress fees to a simple host like HostGator. The domain would remain the same

Thank you for your rapid response. Because it is so simple, I feel that site traffic and other types of SEO actions won't be affect too much.
So, for content, simply use a popular WordPress plugin to easily transfer your files without losing any data.
Recommendation from my end, If you're concerned about SEO, make sure your new domain hosting is very fast, since if your new domain hosting is faster, then you'll get a good result. otherwise, you won't.
Yes You can create backup through wordPress or any plugin there are many plugins of backup there are 1. All in One Migration Plugin, 2. Updraft Backup Plugin and many plugins are there simple process is to make backup and restore in another site as you want without losing your content and also may be traffic.
