wordpress page title question

i am in the process of creating my first blog with wordpress (have been using blogger), and i want my titles to read mykeyword.com/buy-this-keyword or whatever instead of mykeyword.com/?p=10 like it's doing for all my pages other than my home page.

i have a plugin installed called "all in one seo" and in the setting it looks like there are options to do what i want (see the picture below) but after installing and enabling this plugin it isn't changing the titles around, so i don't know.

Set your permalink in your WP settings.

Yep, permalink in settings, change it to custom and enter /%postname%

thanks, did that and it's telling me my .htaccess file is not writable, i have been battling these damn permissions since i created this site. i am using 000webhost and i cannot find the .htaccess file in my ftp, and i have filezilla but cannot connect to my ftp through that either (which i was able to do sucessfully on a test site i created already with 000webhost, no domain though). i used the same settings as i did with the test site (and made sure user name and password were correct) and just cannot connect. any ideas?

and unfortunately my host doesn't allow permission changes to the wp-admin, wp-content, and wp-includes folders, only individual files, so i am having a hard time coping with these permissions. what can i do to change the permissions?

anyone? i can't even access my site until this gets fixed, and it's not letting me switch back to the original settings...

try delete the htaccess first. can you explain more about what you did to the host and WP?

Change file permission to 666 (Right-Click desired filename via FileZilla, i.e. wp_settings.php). Upload created .htaccess file to your web root, overwrite it if already there, and set permission to 666.

thanhclix, like i said before, i can't find the .htaccess file(don't think i have one) so i can't delete it. i didn't change anything in the host, all i did was change the permalink settings in wp to custom, then it wanted to write the .htaccess file, which it doesn't have permission to do. the file doesn't exist as far as i can tell anyways.

origin, i mentioned in post # 5 that i can't access my site using filezilla to change the permissions. for some reason it won't connect to the site.

Your problem isn't the .htaccess file.

It isn't wordpress.

It isn't Filezilla.

I tried using them just for throwaway sites, and they were so frakking awful I let the accounts die.

I cannot tell you how many hours I wasted trying to get the SIMPLEST THINGS DONE on that goddamn nightmare host.

They are 'free' of monthly cost, but they are not free of problems, restrictions on simple adjustments (like changing the permission on a file, for God's sake), or being a complete pain in the ass.

They draw you in with the FREE concept, then massively screw with you to get you to 'upgrade' your account for more than it would cost at Hostgator or similar.

Hivespeed .com has a VPS that's NINE DOLLARS A MONTH. If you can't afford nine bucks, you need to just quit online marketing now and go work flipping burgers until you can.

i am new and just starting out, trying to prove to my self that i can make some money doing this before i start spending money. basically, i am looking for proof of concept before going full scale. i don't have any problem spending money on hosting once i get going, but like i said, this is actaully my first wordpress site and i wasn't even sure i could get it going, so i figured i'd start out this way. but thanks for the info

Look here in the forum you have to find free hostings that will give you more permitions to your files.
