When I try to rank for a new niche on my old website, should I create a post and start building backlinks to it or should I make a new page? Which one will rank faster?

Pages rank faster than posts. Just my experience, can be wrong.

For google page or post are 100% the same

Both will rank. I suggest you to add no-index to categories & tags if you are going to use posts.

I would go with pages any day. I just find that pages rank faster. Are you using a SILO structure by any chance?

i prefer pages. theres no difference. html document is html document. but themes and wordpress by default have comments on for posts. which is gay

for average joe the "wordpress fuckup risk" using posts are higher

so use pages.

No difference, both can work just fine. Posts work for larger sites and pages for smaller, niche specific sites with only few pages.

I would say that you can go with the first option. Create Quality post with High Quality Niche optimized content and then try some quality Linkbuilding. When it comes to website and creating new webpage, it takes time get Ranking movements.
