A month back, I created a free blog on blogspot. However, out of curiosity, 1 week later, I created a similar blog, with same subdomain name on wordpress just to check how they both rank on Google.

The Blogspot one already contained a couple of blog posts, but not the wordpress; I had started configuring it, but then stop midway because I had other urgent things to take care (but i hadnt given up on the idea).

2 weeks later, that is, right now, the wordpress blog, which has no proper blog posts has outranked my blogspot blog. I read around that blogspot usually ranked better than wordpress, but wordpress was great for its amazing plug-ins. These results, however, show otherwise.

I'll be grateful if someone could shed some light on the matter.
Thanks.

If you search around the forum, you'll find that majority of the people here use Wordpress; it's what I've been pointed toward since day one.

Luvnish,

What you are experiencing is definitely strange but I doubt you will find a clear or definitive answer to it.

I have also heard in different forums around the web that some platforms rank better than others but its really difficult to actually prove that. This is especially true since Google's sole mission is to return the most relevant documents to users, not ones that should rank the best. That being said, I do think it is easier to get a WordPress blog to rank in search because of the wealth of SEO related plugins associated with the platform.

Even a particular experience such as yours is difficult to explain because SERP's often behave in strange ways that are not always standardized. Take this fact for example, Google runs hundreds of experiments every year before they launch an algorithm update. Sometimes they test these on a subset of real users. So you may not be able to tell sometimes if an odd behavior is caused by the fact that you developed a website on a specific platform or some other factor that is beyond your control.

Check out this video about how Google makes changes to its algorithm,

Hope that sheds some light on things for you,

Shawn

Here is my 2 cents i have use blogger since day one over wordpress it ranks faster and easy to handle..I work with a big team on IM and all use blogger to run our business we do use wordpress they are good not any doubt but for what we do and how we handle out business blogger is the way to go for us!!

WordPress always rocks. Blogger can't the features and usability of WordPress. A majority of top bloggers recommend WordPress only. No second thoughts.

Cheers :)

Blogger can suspend your account any time for any reason. And all your efforts will go to drain. That's why I use Wordpress on my OWN sites only. I have 100% control over them.

Body feels not good, then go to the hospital for examination, the doctor asked X-rayed, X-ray, MD wrote diagnosis, and then I took the diagnosis and film to the doctor. Surprisingly, the doctors took X-ray diagnosis began shaking his head, his mouth Gee, I was immediately pumped wow cool, want to ask the doctor left how long results that doctors say is: "Oh, now young doctors, the handwriting is really bad. "

Comparing hosted solution to a self-hosted one is not exactly fair point - if you want to compare like that, do it with WP.com and you're closer to truth.

Also there's no "science" behind OP's situation. You can't draw any conclusions from couple pages that have no content whatsoever, and with quality content that's updated even somewhat regularly you can rank basically anything. Although yeah, it's a bit weird, but still proves nothing.

Oukast,

Excellent reply. When people are comparing self-hosted WP and Blogspot blogs, they are comparing apples and oranges.

The reason most IM gurus recommend WP is that you cann't SPAM blogspot that easy and hence this is ONE of TOP reason every IM Guru recommend WP. You have more tools to SPAM.

Thanks

thanks for the info, I was debating back and forth on blogger/wp. And I decided to go with wp, hope it's a good decision.

I hope so too.

Thanks for all the feedback. I've decided to stick with the blogspot afterall. I did a quick comparison between blogspot and WP, and it turns out right now, Blogspot is on the rise while WP is seeing a downfall in its amount of users, backlinks, visits... although their numbers are still in millions.

I've ranked both just fine, so I don't see any difference in these. But if you're even remotely serious about making money with your blog, then get a real domain, hosting and set up WordPress on that - you'll pat yourself on back later down the road.
