lol, Ill give it a shot. Sorry, but I know nothing about joomla. Been using wordpress for lots of sites, for an ecommerce sites, there are lots of great PAID plugins and themes that allow you to turn it into a e commerce site.
I think the main one is WooCommerce. There are free plugins for shopping carts, not sure how good they are compared to WooCommerce, but You could setup a basic free ecommcerce site and just install the shopping cart plugins

Joomla makes a good ecommerce site, so does wp. The problem with WordPress is simple -- its a blog being used as a cms, Joomla is a cms being used for what its made for.
Drupal is also a wonderful choice, so is opencart and osCommerce if you want a ecommerce site.

wordpress in better than joomla..there is a lot of plugins for it and also easier for the users to update.

Unless you know what you are doing, Wordpress is the one to go with. Joomla can be a pain in the ass to modify. Even if you know php, you will find it troublesome to modify due to the lack of documentation.

Haven't heard much about Joomla, but it surely seems to be something way more complicated than Wordpress. Maybe the ease of setting up is what makes the latter so very popular...

I agree, using both Joomla for e-com websites and wordpress for blogs. Joomla is great for e-com and has a lot to offer for dynamic web.

Wordpress or joomla?
For a small/medium ecommerce site, neither.
Just go with Shopify. Yes, there is a monthly fee...but you do not have to worry about the backend. And if you have a decent paid campaign running, you will recover the cost of the monthly fee within a day
Woocommerce, pestashop et al might not have a monthy fee, but it is not "free". Any issue arises, you will have to deal with it yourself. Even if you are a seasoned developer, the last thing you want is to tinker around fixing stuff right around black friday/christmas. You will pay for it with lost sales.
If you are a businessman with not much of IT background running a one man show, Shopify or whichever the next great saas that will come out should be the only choice. Just leave the self hosted platforms to the guys looking for the "free" no monthly fee model.
