Wordpress or Custom Built Website ?

Well, i am about to start my new projects done with my laziness so i was thinking of either going to use wordpress or create my own custom website (Using Templates), Personally i am not a very big fan of Wordpress and haven't had any experience in past but i love their plug ins specially SEO one's but since i am learning web Development at college and already know HTML/CSS am learning ASP.NET so i want to create my site from scratch or using Templates.

So if you were me what would you choose and as i have heard about bad hacking exploits in WP so that can be a reason not to use it. Anyway would love to hear your inputs

for affiliate marketing.... and making money on the net...
nothing beats wordpress because of its massive library of plugins..

Man I envy you for getting into college and learning stuffs like HTML/CSS and stuffs. I am planning to make my way to it. From my earnings here if possible I can earn more. Good luck with your journey then. I hope I can be there someday too..

@EarthNaked thank's man but you do not need to envy me a i have learn HTML/CSS through internet no biggy and any one can learn it, since i studied some hardcore programming languages such as c++ and visual basic so it was bit easy to grasp these language trust me it will not take you more than 6 days to learn these and you can easily create a website for your self and very good luck for your future.

Depends, do you like HTML and such? If you're new to coding and just looking for something to do the job, then WordPress. however, you gotta remember, everything in WP can be done on custom built sites, but everything in custom built sites can't be found on WP.

Wordpress is great once you master it. I used to use static HTML templates and didn't like WP; once I realized the potential of WP, it was a whole new world

Wordpress sites always seem to get indexed pretty fast. I think G likes blogs. I myself use wp pretty much for all my sites now. I used to make my sites in straight HTML as well.

WP all the way. There are too many upsides to name here, just browse this forum and you will see. I am using WP an 99% of my prjects and I wouldn't go back to HTML for anything

Hands down - Wordpress...

You can customize literally everything in wordpress.

I have started moving all my sites to Wordpress - just finished doing a site for my wife and her business.

Used all the images etc from the original website and used them in conjunction with the Constructor theme and it all looks a lot better and its a lot easier for her to update!

As most of the people above me has said, you MUST use Wordpress! It's by far the best content management system for any kind of websites and I personally use it for over 10 pretty succesful websites.

If you install the caching plugin you will dramatically reduce the pressure on your servers + the number of free and commercial plugins is outstanding! About the hacking exploits you mentioned, here's a little article that everyone using WP should read: http://www.josiahcole.com/2007/07/11/almost-perfect-htaccess-file-for-wordpress-blogs/

The htaccess file shown in the article does following:

• Protects itself (security)
• Turns the digital signature off (security)
• Limits upload size (security)
• Protects wp-config.php (security)
• Gives access permission to all visitors with exceptions (security, usability)
• Specifies custom error documents (usability)
• Disables directory browsing (security)
• Redirect old pages to new (optional)
• Disables image hotlinking (bandwidth)
• Enables PHP compression (bandwidth)
• Sets the canonical or "standard" url for your site (seo, usability)
