I'm looking for a blogging site that can work for my website from a content management standpoint. and also, i'd like to be able to make updates on pretty much a daily basis. My friend suggested I use one of the popular blogging sites out there.

Which would you recommend?

I like wordpress for all its SEO plugins and stuff, it's a lot of fun.

Last I heard Blogger gets extra google juice, though.

I like wordpress but if your trying to earn a profit its always better to host the site on your own server versus theirs as you have more control over everything.

Yes - Wordpress hosted sites aren't really up for much in the way of SEO or IM.

They are great for building link chains and suchlike though

Wordpress tends to rank a little higher than blogger as well (generally)
and almost anything can be done - there is a free plugin or app for just about anything you can imagine for WP - much less customization in Blogger

Scritty

You can't go wrong with either, but I prefer Wordpress because its easy to use and the plugins are cool as mentioned earlier.

WordPress, and on your own hosting. A Blogger site can always be taken away from you if the gods deem it unworthy.

wordpress is good for SEO

Wordpress is extremely good SEO right out of the box. Add in the proper plugins, and have a theme that is optimized properly and it is unbelievably good. I've had WP sites rank 1st page in Google within a few days with a proper niche and solid content.

Blogger and hosted Wordpress have the major limitation of being under somebody else's control. Not only is there the danger of the site being shut down without anything you can do about it, but you also can't optimize and tweak them in the same way as you can an install on your own domain.

This is absolutely correct, I agree with gregstereo entirely. You don't want to be doing all that work to your blog only to find that your blog has been taken down. It's much better to use WordPress and on your own hosting.
