Wordpress on Subdomain..

May be a daft question for some! But i am going to ask it anyway

I am thinking of adding a blog to one of my websites, for news etc.. & was thinking of how to go about this, i have heard not to use a subdomain because it's better for SEO...

Could you install wordpress like so..

example.com/news without the need of having a subdomain ?

or would i need to have it like news.example.com ?

Which would be better for SEO, & why?

Which option would you choose, if both are fine?

And finally, are there any alternatives to wordpress i should consider?

Technically fine to have it as site.com/news rather than sub domain.

Not sure about SEO though, both have the same name somewhere in the URL so I wouldn't be too fussed about it.

I know in cPanel you can do that.

Add a directory > Install Wordpress on it. Which you don't need a 'subdomain' to be created at all.

I myself have created subdomains in this case, organic seo came fast after just a few simple posts, but the main domain is old and trusted.

Your best bet would be to go with Wordpress MultiSite. Your currently requirement would fit in perfectly for that. You can use install wordpress instances as a subdomain or subfolder. You can google WP Multisite to read more about that topic.
