I would for sure check out WordPress. It's good for beginners and experts alike, the community support is beyond massive, and there is basically a plugin for everything. The setup itself is painless on most web hosts, and templates are a dime a dozen, especially if you check around here. Unless you have a very specific reason NOT to use it, I always suggest that you start off with WordPress.

Dont know specific numbers but from my experience it is much more than 50%.
WordPress is taking over and numbers increase daily massively.
And there is not only 1 reason why.

For sure, Wordpress is the simplest; but it's not the only option you have. I would also suggest the following, in case you are interested..
1) Drupal - Security wise, it is far better than most of the cms platforms. Customizing it can be tough though.
2) Concrete 5 - I have done some sites using this platform. Making a theme is pretty simple. Speed is also good, if you know what you are doing. It is mostly good for sites that are supposed to be informational only.
3) Joomla - It is not out of competition yet. Theme making can be tough, and there's a steep learning curve involved.
4) Yii2 CMS - Yii is an awesome framework. Although, I have not used this extension for Yii yet; I am quite familiar with the framework and I can vouch for it. If customization and speed is what you are looking for, give this a try.
5) Wagtail - built on python django, this is a very popular cms platform these days. If you are already good in python, there's no reason to not consider this option.

I also find that WordPress is very convenient site and very user friendly. Probably this is why so many people are using it. Another good thing is that you can create some basic page free of charge. There is also paid option, but it depends on what sort of website you would like to create
