    Hi,

I am planning to migrate my wordpress site to another server.

Is there a plugin or anything that can help me with migrating an entire website to another server.

    Thanks in advance!

Assuming both servers have cpanel, you can make a backup of your existing site in old cpanel and simply carry this to the new and install it using cpanel of the new webhost

You need the database too, without db all you copy is pretty much useless

Thanks a lot for that. Do you know of any guide that you would recommend on how to go about doing this.

    Hi virtualc08
    Check out the Duplicator plugin.

I have used it for a few site migrations. You install the plugin on the old site. You then use the plugin to create a package (a type of backup used by Duplicator).

You can restore this package on another server.

Just FTP the package, and an installer.php file to the new server, create a new empty database and navigate to the installer.php.

Once you get to installer.php you will need the database name that you created, as well as the username and password.

I have even created a package of an 'empty' Wordpress with all of my favourite plugins, a Contact Us page, an About Us page, and a Privacy Policy page. I also have an AdSense plugin installed, and configured with all of my Ad codes. So whenever I start a new AdSense site, I just restore the package, and can start adding content immediately. No time wasted on the normal setup, installing of plugins, permalinks setup, etc.

I haven't tried it with a big site yet, although I have migrated an eCommerce site of mine, and it worked really well.

Let me know if it works for you.

go with this method OP, it is the easiest and most straight forward way to do it. It is better than my suggestion.

Most hosts will do free file transfer for you. You normally don't have to do anything.

It is actually easy to move WP yourself, provided you understand main components of your WP site. I usually do this:

    1. Go to cPanel and download database backup from old host
    2. Connect with Filezilla and download wp-content directory
    3. Go to my new host, install WordPress with autoinstall.
    4. Connect Filezilla to new host and delete wp-content from this fresh installation
    5. Upload my wp-content I just got from my old host instead
    6. Go to PHPMyAdmin, find database of my new installation and export database backup there
    7. Login and save permalinks once again (important step, they tend to get messed up)
    8. Preview and you must be good to change name servers

    That's it.

Actually you don't need any special plugin to do this. Just log into PHPmyadmin and backup the database, then go to cpanel and compress the wordpress installation(so it is easy to transfer) then you can download and re upload or just transfer between hosts if you have SSH access.

If you need help I can give you a hand. I have probabbly transferred about 100 wp blogs :)

    1. Log in to your ftp (I use beyond compare).
    2. Copy/backup all website files.
    3. Transfer these files to new hosting area (via ftp)
    3. Login to your php my admin area, back up your database.
    4. Create new database in your new host, import your backed up database files.
    5. Go to your wp-config files and change the various log in/host details.
