Wordpress Live Chat Plugins, Do They Actually Convert?

So I have seen a lot of companies (generally ones that provide services) switch back and forth on using these wordpress popup live chat plugins. I have always thought that they are super annoying. Haven't seen any studies showing that these actually work to convert traffic into leads. Wanted to see if anyone has any lucky with them. If so which ones do you recommend?

All I have is anecdotal evidence. I'll start by saying that I ignore the majority of them, but there have been a few times I've made sales after being able to ask questions of live chat that were stopping me from buying.

Well a lot of times anecdotal evidence seems to beat out empirical. Common sense would tell you that if you see them out there in the wild obviously they are working for someone. But then again you know that common sense is often bs.

i think these plugins actually convert but they are annoying as screaming kids
