This forum is turning to be so more and more useful everyday. I making this post to make it even more useful.
I was searching for affiliate link cloaker on google and this thread came up. I installed the plugin but it didn't work. I tried a few other plugins (from other sources) too which didn't work either but trying different things I found out the problem and finally reinstalled this plugin and got it working.
The purpose of this post is not tell you how good this plugin is but while I was searching for information on why this plugin was not working or how to get it working I found none. I did a lot of search but there was no information as the plugin developer abandoned it after putting it on wordpress.com
Purpose of this post is to show, people interested in this plugin, how to install this plugin and get it working, here it is:
Before you install this plugin you need to activate "mod_rewrite" in your wordpress installation. To do this go to "Permalink" >> under "Settings" tab >> in your wordpress admin panel. In "Permalink" choose "Custom Structure" and paste this in corresponding box "/%postname%.html"
The above is just one of the ways to tidy up your link structure in wordpress. To learn more about it search for "permalink wordpress" in google.
Now, just install the plugin as any other plugin. Download the plugin from
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-affiliate/ and upload it to your wordpress plugin folder and activate from your wordpress admin panel.
Your wp-affiliate plugin is now active, fully functional and ready to roll.
Here is how to use the plugin:
To see and use this plugin in action you will have to go to "Add new post" or edit post. Below the Add new post box you will see the options of wp-affiliate plugin.
First there is add a base category button. For the purpose of this example I have used "go" as base category. Once the category is added, you will see it right below with a "+" sign alongside it.
When you click on that plus sign, you will see the option to add your links. After the link is added you will see a new link is given along with the original link. Use that link in your post to hide your real links. When someone clicks on it he will be taken to the target link.
here is what it looks like:
You can also see how many people clicked on which link by enabling stats in the wp-affiliate settings tab.
That is all to this plugin.
Yeah, the links can only be added manually and so it might not be useful to existing blogs or auto blogs. But for starters it is a great plugin.
I hope it helps all forum users and also those who will be visiting this page from google or other search engines.
