Does anyone think that there will be something to surpass the wordpress platform?

Wordpress is by far the most perform content blogging platform on the web, and that's not going to change anytime soon.

Probably, just let me get out my crystal ball and check (maybe Pewep could help?). 
If someone creates a CMS that gets attention and is superior to Wordpress in every way (because superior products do not always get noticed), then I could see people migrating, especially if there is a Wordpress to (new CMS) migration option available.

WordPress at the moment is way better than any other platform. With version 3.8 and over it became almost as flexible as drupal, but kept the simplicity. Also took all the good features of Joomla and incorporated them into it's core. Right now WordPress is used by 60% + of all the websites whose content management system we know. This is 23.9% of ALL websites! This means that 1 out of four websites that we're browsing is WordPress. Now that they bought woocommerce I think that this will be a big game changer. They'll certainly be around for a long time!

I don't think that thegrid.io will be a WordPress Killer in any way and I think that AI has a lot of way to improve the ROI of the methods that are currently used. It's not a bad idea, but I don't think that it's feasible to happen any time soon and even if it happens, this doesn't mean that WordPress can't follow. The accessibility feature that they incorporated lately for example, it blew my mind!

Yeah just at a competitive standpoint I would like to see other platforms up their game to provide something new to the table.

The ghost platform tried to present a couple of new features, but to my own opinion it didn't provide anything new to the market. If you're a blogger there are plenty of other options. Personally I prefer Tumblr much more than anything else! everything else that I've used, doesn't even match with WordPress.
