hello i was checking my search console and basically that my page or product language is french/france does this affect my site if i dont want to rank in france

I have met a real friend here. I am the architect of a team that is adept in French, besides some other European languages. You are on the right track. In my view, if you want to rank higher for the French-speaking audience, you should make at least 80% content in French.

In case you choose English or a different language, French viewers might feel offended & it will not bode well for your product. I hope that I am amply clear.

Yes, if your site looks French, Google may think it’s for France and show it less to people in other countries.

Google look at language of the content itself, the HTML language setting, hreflang tags, where users are coming from and how they interact with the page, the types of sites linking to it, local details like currency or phone numbers, and even the domain name.

Why you don't want to rank in France? If you created a product for French speaking people, Google will promote it to all countries where French is widely spoken, including France. You can add other details like NAP for geo targeting.

Yes, it matters. Google uses language as a strong geo signal. If you don’t want France traffic switch content language and align hreflang GSC settings and on-page signals accordingly.

Yes, it can impact your rankings. When Google detects your pages as French or France focused, it tends to show them mainly to French users, which can reduce visibility elsewhere. To fix this, make sure your content language is correct, apply proper hreflang tags, and set the right country targeting.

If Google Search Console detects your page or product language as French (fr-FR), Google may:
  • Assume your site is meant for users in France
  • Show it less often to users searching in other countries
  • Compete you mainly against French-language sites

Yes, language settings influence targeting; French content may limit non-France rankings.

can i have fr-my country for ex

If Google thinks your site is French/France, it can reduce visibility in the countries you actually want to rank in — but it’s not a penalty and it’s easy to fix.

Set your WordPress site language to the correct language (e.g. English), make sure <html lang> isn’t fr, and remove any France (fr-FR) targeting or hreflang.

Yes, it can affect targeting, set the correct site language, hreflang, and Search Console country settings if you want to rank outside France.

That’s fine... language doesn’t force country targeting. Just keep French if that’s your audience, and don’t set a country target in Search Console.

Yes, you can tell Google to give more weight to your site in France if you set the language to French or French-speaking. Adjust your targeting in Search Console or utilize hreflang tags to prevent ranking in that nation if you don't want to target it.
