It's the shoal strategy: there are so many of us WordPress users, you cant hack us all.

Agreed, but who uses wordpress without overloading on installed plugins? Of course not the advanced users but..

I've worked with wordpress for years and the amount of hacks I've seen from brute force attempts and vulnerability's within plugins is mind-boggling. It can be avoidable but is extremely common due to the wide variety of users that use wordpress. From the most complete novice to advanced users use wordpress and it isn't going anywhere for now.
