Hey guys, So I just tried to install wordpress using hostgator and fantastico. Everything seemed to go fine, but after the installation is complete, when I check the site, I'm presented with a page titled "index of". This page contains a long list of links. Stuff like, cgi-bin/ fantastico_fileslist.txt fantversion.php index.php license.txt The list goes on for a while like above with other links. Why am I being taken the this page instead of the default wordpress blog for my site? What have I done wrong? Thanks for your help! Zozja
Because your index.php is a index of the sites content, and not your home page. Delete all files, clear out all sql entrys and install it agin.
You have to let Fantastico create the directory where you want WP installed...did you do this? I've never had any problems with HG and Fantastico to be honest.
I left the directory box blank. I understand that makes the blog your homepage. Then I went about the install as prescribed. But the blog is not the homepage now. Instead it's that weird "index of" page. This is very confusing to me as I followed a step by step video tutorial on how to do this. Any suggestions? Zozja
I guess its a .htaccess problem. Uninstall wordpress using fantastico, make a .htaccess file if there isnt any and try it again.
Are you also hosting other sites or subdomains though? Normally, you have a drop down selection to chose from, above the directory box. I've since tried typing in index.php after my blogs and it still takes me to the correct home page. Have you looked on ftp or file manager to see if all the files were installed? Also, there is some warning not to remove fantastico.txt or similar file name, but this is only to allow an uninstall as I understand it. I've never had this problem so, after checking where the files were installed, I can only suggest you do an uninstall and then re-install. Best of luck!!
I had a problem IDENTICAL to yours. The only way I found to fix that 100% was to completely delete the account and remake a new hosting account in WebHostManager. Then I installed WP via Fantastico 1st thing before doing anything else. In my case, I have a reseller plan, so I was able to remake my own hosting account, but if you don't have that, you need to contact gator and have them do it for you. -Anderson:spider:
Zozja, download from wordpress.org site and install manually. The wordpress of Fantastico might out of date.
