wordpress internal linking question...

Ok if I have website that has a anchor link in nevigation menu on top of the site for example home | about us | red roses(keyword) | etc... .

When I do blog posts (on the same domain) will linking to red roses page have any ranking benefit?. I realize that navigation menu and vs content link may be difreant but than again google will only count the first link if there are two towards the same page.

Please advice this really hurts my brain.... did you run any test?

I don't think so. Linking that page within relevant content, with variation, will benefit you much more than a nav link.

My opinion

Used to help a lot but not so much these days. In fact excessive internal linking will lead to a penalty.
