    I just installed wordpress on my site but I am trying to go on it, and it says "Error establishing a database connection"

    I tried googling it but couldn't find a solid answer. anyone experience this before?

    Something is not right in your wp-config.php . Make sure everything is accurate in that file.

    // ** MySQL settings - You can get this info from your web host ** //
    /** The name of the database for WordPress */
    define('DB_NAME', 'database_name_here');

    /** MySQL database username */
    define('DB_USER', 'username_here');

    /** MySQL database password */
    define('DB_PASSWORD', 'password_here');

    /** MySQL hostname */
    define('DB_HOST', 'localhost');

    /** Database Charset to use in creating database tables. */
    define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');

    /** The Database Collate type. Don't change this if in doubt. */
    define('DB_COLLATE', '');

    It means the details you provided on the set-up page (database connection details) are wrong. Delete the wp-config.php file and do it again, check that you copy the database connection details exactly.

    edit: Or edit the file manually of course ;o) doh!

    There is no need to delete the wp installation, just check the data in wp-config.php. If the problems persist, check with phpmyadmin if wordpress created some database structure, delete it and try again.
