Hi
I use Movable Type 5 for my blog . Personally I think it gives a more professional look than wordpress websites/ blogs, but it is more technical and was a very steep learning curve for me. If you would like to see what my blog looks like Google "theSarayiahpost" as having just joined I am not able to insert a link.

durpal is best alternative .

what about free google sites [ they load very fast and simple ]

you will miss worldpress plugins , themes , etc

Outside of those mentioned above you could always have a custom php script written for you.
