Hey Guys (and Gals),

I received this email today from one of my 1000's of mailing lists but thought it was good info because I am guilty of not backing up before Wordpress upgrades....and I have over 70 sites!

Here is the letter in it's entirety:

I wanted to pass along a little warning after my experience with upgrading to
Wordpress 3.3 "Sonny," to hopefully save you the pain I went
through the other night, and am still sorting through.

I was out of town for a few days at an amazing event with
Michelle Pescosolido, yep, the Facebook Queen.
Anyway, after getting back I hopped on my blog and saw it said
I needed to upgrade to the new Wordpress. Honestly, I haven't
had a problem with the last few Wordpress updates, so I glazed
over that Warning to back up first, wanting to get it done
quickly, and since I had been gone and off my blog for a few days,
I didn't realize how new it actually was, pretty Brand New.

To make a long, painful story short, next thing I knew I was
locked out of my admin area and couldn't get back in. Ended up
having to go to my FTP server to delete all my plugins and
upload them back one by one. Ouch! No fun!

My Lesson Learned the Hard Way: Always Backup before updating!!

Several popular plugins I use are having an issue, as well: Pop-Up
Domination, SEO Ultimate and Google XML Sitemap. Although, I had someone
else tell me their Google XML Sitemap is working okay.
I'd honestly recommend waiting a couple of weeks for them to get some of the kinks
out to save yourself the hassle, or make sure you backup in case you need to restore.

WE'VE BEEN WARNED.

i just update couple hours ago, and no problem till now

WTF update is that from wordpress and firefox also crashes often both make me really angry !

Updated a few days ago, no problems. Updated a dozen or so sites.

I haven't had any problems either, so far. All of my plugins are working great (LOTS of plugin updates, of course).

I do like the new interface...

However, as the old saying goes "Save often" is something I learned years ago before autosave existed. CPanel is setup for full automatic backups, with WP database updates made daily as well. Better safe than sorry.

No problems on my side. Already updated to 3.3 most of my blogs backed by WP.

Ya I did update most of my site, google site map plgin is working ok.

I updated 2 of my blogs without backing up, and had no issues. I don't understand how they were "locked out." They didn't explain that at all, and that was the most important part of the story. Why did this person feel it was more important to go into detail about his date with the Facebook Queen, rather then posting details of what actually happened?

From some quick research, there are many little things that could cause it, and NONE of them have anything to do with Wordpress 3.3 itself. The reason people are having issues is because of their plugins, or cookie/cache issues. The issues can present themselves with ANY Wordpress update, again, it has NOTHING to do with Wordpress 3.3.

Shit - just updated all my sites yesterday :P

Anyways, I don't seem to have experienced any problems though. Will let you guys know if I do happen to experience any.

Obviously if you value uptime you should never roll out untested software to a production environment.

It takes less than 5 minutes to clone your site to a subdomain for testing changes before rolling them out to the live site.

Same here - updated without problems.
Google xml sitemap also works fine.

Ha! You know what I think?

I think this dude wanted to get people to open his email so that's the title he used. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until KickFlip asked why he mentioned Facebook Queen and didn't give anymore details about getting locked out.

At the end of the email (which I left out of course because it wasn't relevant), he mentions that the Facebook Queens course was great and put a link. HOLY SHIT THAT'S GOOD MARKETING.

Well almost, I opened the email but I didn't bother with that facebook queen crap, I was so worried about my Wordpress sites.

Now from everyone's post I know that this dude is full of crap!
Thanks!

I had issues with my custom admin design plugins but it was an easy fix and I actually found that in wp 3.3 I no longer needed 2 of them so I'm not too mad but will check to make sure the ones listed here are still working on my installs. Thanks for the heads up!

Updated yesterday, no problems at all. All plugins are working as usual. Cheers! :)

Some of my blogs updated to 3.3 and no problem at all, I have several plugins also installed in those blogs.

the best wp version up to now. had no problem on hundreds of blogs.

Working fine , just updated my 20 blogs and all are working like a charm .
