Word VS Keyword Density

Hey guys,

For some time now, I have been writing articles for backlinks and for onpage seo.

But recently I got this question regarding keyword vs word density.

Lets say we have a 500 word article and lets say i have the kw in the article 10 times, which would result in 2% "WORD" density.

But now, I have been using this tool: http://wordcounter.net/ that lets you count your words in real time, but the strangest thing I see is that, for each 500 word article I write and I use that keyword 10 times, it doesn't show a density of 2%, but a density much higher, which then it makes me thing between word density and Keyword density.

AKA, connectors, adjectives and other "small" words are counted on the way to get the 500 word article, but at the same time when we are trying to target keywords and not only words this measurement of density might be different as we are not counting the "small" words.

This should be an interesting topic to discuss.

What do you think? Should I care about keyword density or word density? ANd why not the other?

Exactly what PrinceVisi said seems to be the same experience I'm having. To add to that, I believe even the keyword inside your images will effect the density.

To piggyback on the earlier two replies, this is part of the reason I've been having my best success with very long articles (~2K words). While I'd say that it's probably not *necessary* for a good ranking, I think it helps in multiple ways. For one, an article that long (that is actually hand-written and good quality) shows authority on a subject. And also, long articles mean you can throw in several instances of your KW without getting your overall density too high. Mix in some longtails and variations, and Google sees what your page is all about without penalizing you for stuffing.
