Word Press vs Custom HTML

Hey quick question,

Do you find any advantage as far as on-site SEO is concerned with using Wordpress?

I can do either, and was planning on building a "perfect" seo html/css template for myself but am not sure if it would be worth the time.

To save time, energy and resources definitely you must go with wordpress. i'm not saying this just because I'm a wordpress lover but a better reason is that you get everything handy. You can incorporate static html pages into wordpress from theme editor just by copy pasting the code. Other benefits you get is RSS feeds which you can use for pulling in the traffic easily in enumerous ways. What you can do with wordpress in 1 hour may take whole day to do the same thing on static html.
 
All you can do with a 100% custom html you can do within word press.
With WP you get a quik start, a cms and a lot of tools including seo tools...
 
Static HTML is only a real option for you if you are doing an ultra targetted MFA micro site that you plan on setting up, SEOing and never adjustign again.

Wordpress offers a simple solution that can be set up for awesome on-page SEO out of the box.

To answer your question, it is not worth the time, buy some cheap hosting, deploy wordpress, install allinoneSEO and then hack a theme to make it look nice. You will be way in front time wise, and have an awesome framework for a page.
 
WP is always the answer. CMS sites are just the way to go now.
 
I think, Wordpress is better. Easy to use and great for seo.
 
If I plan to update a site on a regular basis and/or want to let people leave comments, I'll go with Wordpress. Only thing I don't like about Wordpress is the need to keep backup databases, but otherwise it's a big time saver. If it's a site I'm going to let sit and only update occasionally, that's when I'll use HTML instead.
 
Almost everybody will tell you to go the WP way. I say go html if you're not planning on a big site. The benefit would br the lack of a database (so that's one less security issue to worry about) and less disk usage. But be warned: You're gonna have to do everything by hand, including stuff like your robots.txt and your sitemap.xml. Only go the static html way if and only IF you're a kickass ninja html developer and such tasks take you less time than using wp. Otherwise, just stick to wp as google loves it. Just my $.02
 
On an unrelated note, I finally beat the cuss filter and can finally say ninja. Ninja, ninja, ninja. :D
 
It depends on what kind of website you go for. I prefer wordpress for review sites, adsense sites, affiliate sites.
For corporate or business websites, I go for a static website and a matching wordpress blog. With this combination you can rank for broad keywords with the static pages and get traffic for long tail keywords with your blog.

If you have a micro site selling ebook or similar product, static sites work best. You can achieve these effects using wordpress too, but you need cleverly designed thenes.
 
For SEO purposes plain HTML is the best, but reading your needs above wordpress will work. However the theme you use can play a major role in your rankings. I just completed a test between two themes on a .com and .net using the same contact, structure, backlinks etc. Keeping everything constant. .net ranked #1 using one theme and .net #67 with another. After switching the themes the sites reversed. .com #91 and .net #1. So test your theme for complaince with WS3 and CSS standards. Use google webmaster tool suggestions to improve your coding and load time.
 
Thanks for the suggestions! For now I plan on building a portfolio of mfa niche sites. I have a end goal 6 months from now and am planning all I need to do to make sure I actually achieve this goal and don't get off track.

I would say I am a ***** html programmer (lol not too hard to accomplish!) and am mainly concerned with WP is just the code bloat compared to a html site with the same content.

For now I think I am going to stick with WP until I want to start experimenting with the sites.


Any recommendations for WP themes?
 
if you need cheap go with elegantthemes, if you can spend some bucks go with studiopress, if you have good budget go with ithemes, if you've no budget you can find all of the above mentioned in template download area of bhw.
