HI all,

I was doing some research and i found a posts regarding "themes and being banned by Google."
http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/adsense/374665-best-adsense-themes.html

I don't know if its true...but can someone tell me...HOW AND WHY google would ban or penalize a site for using a WP theme?

thanks for your constructive input!

Bump.

I just spoke with some guy who said that if your site does not upload quickly....then google will penalize you....even if you are doing PPC.

Anyone hear more about this?

(I always thought that WP had pretty good speed?)

Sorry to tell you this but WordPress is dead man, you have to move on...

That thing about Google penalizing slow sites is true too. WP has good speeds but it is now penalized due to certain Google updates to do with blog spamming.

The idiots spoiled it for us man. You need to find new ways.

With something like 25% of websites on the internet being based on wordpress, I doubt that they really are going to penalize it specifically. I have tons of wordpress sites that rank perfectly.

Site load speed is indeed a signal for ranks in search engines.

Not sure if the others are being sarcastic. Word Press is far from dead. It's the most widely used blog platform and CMS.

The days of the garbage mini-sites that you can set up in 10 minutes on WP is gone, but with real sites its still going strong.

Also, for your question on banned templates. I have several blogs running ctr theme and none of them are banned.

Cheers!

U Guys gone Mad for sure LOL.. WP is DEAD? Good for you, stop using it.

Google doesn't penalize a site for running WP but it will penalize a site for slow loading speeds.

Firstly, this thread is like the tv commercial that the girl believes everything is true on the internet and that she is dating a French model. It is utterly rediculous........ All my sites are wordpress and they are doing great. In Googles page speed they are all about 85 -90 percent in speed range and I use a bunch of plugins. There are a couple themes that gave you high center for adsense which they were banning accounts on. This post can seriously go up for the dumbest thread of the year...

Some of the cock and bull stories are actually because people d/l'ed cracked premium themes that were trojaned to provide certain negative user experiences, got deindexed (and are of course too paranoid to use gwt to see why), and then started crying on forums that Thesis or whatever had gotten their site banned.

Google doesn't know what platform you're using unless
1) It says wordpress on the theme
2) The google bot can access the admin login page
3) You have an obvious WP site structure (which google probably doesnt even analyze)

Sites are HTML, CSS, JS and images to bots. Not PHP, not ruby or anything else. HTML is flexible and is platform agnostic.

Can you get penalized for using a wordpress theme? Yes. You can be penalized with your own custom theme too. Doesn't mean anything other than whoever makes the theme blows at making them. If its slow? Penalty. Trying to hide content from users to rank better in serps? Penalty. Doing something shady? Penalty. Annoying the user? Penalty. Slow load? Penalty.

You'll have the same problems if you copied the front-facing content and removed WP entirely. WP is not the issue (except for possibly speed), it's your layout.

maybe because of hacked themes with hidden links
as I said maybe, other folks will explain you better,
if you use regular themes (free or paid), I don't see reason why would google penalize you

just my 2 cents

Just wanted to say that in the head of every WordPress site it clearly states that the generator is WordPress. It is very easy to tell if a website is using it.

That being said everything else you mentioned is correct. I use WordPress for all my sites and have no problems with load speed or rankings :-)

Some plugins are very big and will slow your site from loading
