I wake up this morning, and I see almost no traffic to my site. Automatically I launch up CuteRank to update my rankings, and this is the result.

I decided to ping a few backlinks last night with bulkping.com (like 20 links only).

How can this happen? Is it a penalty or a dance?

looks like a penalty to me - post / send me the site and I will tell you for sure.

  3. Yup, looks like a penalty. Doesn't look too bad.
Keep building links/content. You'll be fine.

Same thing happened to me, I pinged a couple and am no longer ranking in Google for any of my keywords. Site is only a week old though so I'm assuming it's just dancing.

What I know for sure is that your penalty is NOT because of your pinging of the site. That would be totally illogical. Rather check your content quality.

How old is the site? That doesn't look like a slap at all, more of a dance!

Keep building the links, pm me the domain if you want me to have a quick look for you but I wouldn't panic

I bought new domain. Started building web2.0 sites(squidoo, hubpages, blogger) and some others. used AMR to blast them and it worked fine. Mede up to page 6 in google. Then i thought that i need high PR backlinks. So i harvested pr6,5,4,3 and started commenting. So many backlinks appeared from 6 to 109. Then in coule days my website droped right back and now it is in page 15.

Then i found this on SEOMOZ
    hxxp://seomoz.org/blog/an-seo-checklist-for-new-sites-whiteboard-friday
There video clearly explains what i did wrong

I can only hope that this is a dance, because if it is a penalty I'm going to be extremely disappointed. I have unique content so it couldn't be because of any of the common reasons.

However, can one dance so badly and bounce back better? I mean I went from terms on the front page to not even in 100, sounds more like an unfortunate penalty. What do you all think?

After looking at the site I found a couple of things -

1: His using the search terms plugin which is linking the term to a page = Use it but don't have it automating links, google hates it and I have seen sites take a small hit

2: You appear to link every now and again, this doesn't appear natural to google! You said you hire services out? Try and spread them out or get your sellers to spread a service out over a few days, may not ping the links to let google find them, after a couple of weeks then ping

3: Put nofollow tags on the affiliate links, its a business transaction not a recommendation

4: Your backlinks are spammy (some flag as malware), I think you got away with a big drop due to the site having quite good content - It is a nice site to be honest

5: Your ad placements are ok but I would consider moving them and changing them to fit in with the theme, its clear that the site is built for ads (it looks that way)

What you need to do is ride it out and keep building links but be a bit wiser with what your doing!

Build yourself a nice network and hit the networks with the spam but don't hit your own site, you have good content so keep it up, you haven't been hit with the panda at all, its not really a slap its just that Google do not like your links because they are crap

You good tweak your onpage SEO also but ill leave that for another day

    A) This has happened to me before and I don't think it's a sandbox, but Google reviewing link quality or something. I went up in a few days after it.

From what I understand the last thing you want to do when in sandbox is to all the sudden STOP link building. I've heard that you are supposed to continue, but try to used better quality links with as little of a footprint as humanly possible. This might be a pain in the butt and/or more expensive, but if I am ever faced with the sandbox it is what I will do. That and get me a few super high pr links with authority.
