With such diversity here someone should be able to answer this question for me.

I have had an idea for a television reality show for quite some time now. It is not a clone or record-pasta. Nothing exists like it. I ran it across a few of my close friends and everyone agreed it would be a bad ass show. Now, I know nothing about television networks or even where to start. I was wondering if someone here had some insight on who to talk to or where to begin. I am from Canada if that helps.

I don't even have the idea written out yet. I will once I get pushed in the right direction. Who do I attempt to contact and how would I protect myself of someone running off with my idea?

I don't wish to share my idea publicly. Although I could be wrong I seriously think that if correct action was taken it would be possible for production.

Without much info, I couldn't possible comment on weather it was a good idea, or who to point you to in the business.

I work with MTV in my local area ok UK.

Trust me, if this is a good idea, you've still got a huge journey to go yet!

Should I lawyer up and let them deal with it? Should I talk to a local network? Is there a specific person or department within a network that deals with show pitching?

i do business with a major hollywood producer (he did several famous movies) and i can tell you that just having a "great idea", according to your friends, is step one.
getting it done without getting ripped off is the real trick.

the entertainment industry is overflowing with sharks.

try going on Linked In, they have several groups for people in the industry and you may find help. you can even meet larry wilcox on there.

i have a great idea for a reality show, too. and it would definitely get watched but i doubt i will ever bother with it.
