Winners and losers in the new algorithm change

Bottom line is what conclusion can we draw here?

my site dropped from second to 5th another site went up. we just have to wait and see what Google settles at and start the fight again

My sites typically have original content written by me. I always let them get indexed before distributing them in any form. All of my sites are ranking basically where they already were. One site may have jumped a few spots for a couple of keywords after this change.

Some of my backlinks are articles directories. Some are blogs comments and some are web 2.0s.

As far as I can tell from my end of things, article backlinks still help. I dunno if they are now worth less.

I spin articles before submitting.

Is this some kind of bug or is it just me? No matter what I do I cannot view page 2 of this thread. Let's see whether it'll take me to it when I post this.

About 11 of my Made for AdSense Sites have disappeared, well I gave up on them a while ago due to them making crap money so I'm not suprised. I think I missed the boat for AdSense.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. Google is still vulnerable to manipulation as it always has been. The problems they face with spam link detection are massive. They have got a lot better at judging the quality of content but if you can build quality links to good quality content then you can still rig the system

Big conclusion - Quit bitching and wait and see what happens in a couple of weeks before making new plans. Let the dust settle so you can see better. For my main keyword, which also happens to be the domain I jumped to #1 but I want to see what happens in a couple of weeks. All content is original and it is a fairly new site.

I first mined a large set of data based on SERPs from both google.com and google.ca. Because the update has been implemented in the USA and not Canada

What you need to do is check the sites that took your place, analyze them and maybe you can figure out what googles algorithm likes or "favors" over certain content/backlinks/websites.

For anyone who has had their site drop in the rankings, this is what you should do as well. Then be so kind to report back what you've concluded.

It looks E-Commerce stores and owning products are the ways to go now... Think Google knows where the money is for their business.

This is very true I think. I remember a thread a while ago where someone was selling niche autoblogging sites along with keyword domains. he offered to set them all up for you and guaranteed you they would make atleast $50 a month. he used a certain example of one of the keywords he had ranked for: "shark steam cleaner", which are just carpet cleaners that are giving regular vacuums some real competition. When I checked the rankings recently, I could see significant changes in those results. Before, there was the site with the actual keyword being ranked number one: sharksteamcleaners.net, which is basically just an "adsense site". now it has dropped down 2 spots to number 3 and the sites that took their place are actual sellers of the product. For example, number 2 is amazon, and number 1 is a site that actually sells shark steam cleaners(sharkclean.com)

That's just one example, and with this example I think it's pretty safe to say that those adsense "niche" sites are one of the areas of IM that is going to go down the drain? I hope i'm wrong. best possible scenario is we just have to choose the right niches for the adsense sites that don't have a lot of products. the shark steam cleaner is a bad example because the keyword is an actual product, so more than likely, actual retailers of the product will get shown higher in the search results.

so we would then have to just find good keywords that don't have anything to do with products.
maybe this would work, I don't know, but it wouldn't hurt for some of you out there to test and try it out.

Quality-links to quality-content. Well... that is quality by definition ;-)

I can see what you are saying!

But by quality content, I mean "as high quality as it needs to be".

Content can be poorly thought out, uninteresting rubbish, but in my SEO activities, if it's on tier 1 or 2, it has to be in perfect english with correct grammar.

So I still churn out rubbish content - it's just nice looking rubbish that won't raise any flags e.g. unusual concentrations of words, lots of grammar mistakes, repetition, nonsensical phrases, too much duplication etc.

I think Google's bot can detect these things in content & mark it down accordingly.

With links, Google's job is a lot harder and I think you can get away with a lot. Still, a few dozen heavy-hitting authority links surrounded by text can work wonders compared to hundreds of tiny profile links.
