Windows Vista or Win7 or Win8

Windows 7 and XP are the best windows by Microsoft, Vista sucks and 7 is best for tablet PCs..

If you have a laptop that's built for windows 8 then you will be fine, it is quicker than 7 by a long shot

The start menu thing did put me off at first but then I realised that I haven't actually used it in months as I use Launchy

Windows 7 is not better than XP, Microsoft just discontinued legacy support or XP, which is the only issue with it. W7 is better for those who may not be as tech savvy, however XP has always been the best OS for customizability and kernel modding. The only reason people believe 7 is better than XP, is the mere fact that they see these "fancy" features in 7 and automatically assume it is better. 8 has the same issue. Diehard Microsoft fans refuse to acknowledge that 8 is absolutely terrible an use "well you just need to get used to it" as their excuse for all of the negativity.

Why all these Windows 8 bashers? It's amazing. The learning curve is around 10-15 minutes. Everything is much more streamlined.

Why? Because, it's a crappy desktop experience. Let's count the ways it's craptacular:

1. No Start Menu: I know you can use Search or add a third app or pin to the task bar but that's not as convenient as the Start Menu. Why force the Metro interface down our throats? Answer lies below.

2. Really, no Shut Off but buried under the Charm menu and Gears? No way to kill an app other than a gesture?

3. Forced touch gestures by using your mouse even to login?

4. No Aero!

5. Control Panel for desktop and craplets scattered throughout the two separate interfaces.

6. Poor driver support and issues with running a number of legacy apps.

7. You can only run two craplets at a time? What is this a smart phone? Oh, yeah it is. And on it goes.

This is what happens when a company confuses a marketing strategy for a GUI. And the only purpose of those shiny tiles is to plant a storefront on hundreds of millions of desktops. Windows 8 is not about improving the experience for desktop users, it's a failed hail mary pass by Redmond to become relevant within a single OS release.

Why do you think Sinofsky is gone; because Windows 8 is a home run?

I wont go into the features of both, however I prefer Windows 8 due to the speed of the system. I previously had Windows 7 and compared to Windows 8, 7 was going at a snails pace. Windows 8 really sped things up. It even fixed an issue I had with start up hang.

I have reviewed the benchmarks from several different organizations and Windows 8 wins hands down in regards to start up and shutdown. Other metrics are bit of a muddle with the edge going to Windows 8. And of course a new installation of Windows always benefits from having a fresh registry. That's not enough for me to deal with that confused interface and the possible driver issues.

Yea this is the big thing for me, it starts lightning fast compared to Windows 7 and Vista. I've been using Mac OSX heavily before Win 8, so it wasn't a huge issue to adapt to their weird and complicated interface system.

Have not had a single driver issue so far.

I tried the windows 8 interface but for some reason it appears to be a bit of a kludge and the Metro tiles seemed tacked on. Now if they left the start menu and had the Metro apps show as a screen saver then we would be talking but Microsoft wanted to make sure their storefront was in our face.

Seems like Bertbaby just doesn't like change. I love the new Windows 8.

I upgraded to Windows 8 a few days ago. It took me some time to get the hang of the modern UI but now I'm starting to like it. Its fast and smooth and looks awesome

XP for me all the way, if i buy a new pc tomorrow am downgrading whatever shit they put on to xp. Most reliable OS microsoft ever made

Not true, I'm a bit of a geek and my next desktop will be a souped up Ubuntu rig. I presently have it running on a 12 year old machine and do all of my financials on it without fear of malware. I can't wait to see Ubuntu on some real fast hardware.

Right now, I'm teaching myself video editing so you can teach an old dog new tricks! New and different don't always equate to meaning better!
