Depends on what you're going to use it for. Care to expand? Linux servers seem to be more reliable. Are you talking hosting? VPS? Dedicated?

Some people claim that Windows are insecure, but looking at the stats Linux is more likely to get hacked due to the popularity. They can already infect a Windows home computer, why do they need a Windows server?

linux = cheap and very popular to host on. I would guess most people on this forum host on linux.

windows = pricier. I only use this if I'm doing something fancy like a facebook app and need .NET

If you're looking for something cheap, then go for Linux. You'll need a little tech know-how, but nothing that Google can't supply.

I use a Windows Server VPS. I like it because it has a control panel but at the same time, I can run FEE, MailerKing, and other desktop apps on it as my desktop is too slow and also passes along MY IP address.

if hosting only domains and not hosting apps, go with Linux with cPanel and save money.

I have heard this but do not know much about it...let say you have 20 blogs or so on shared hosting (which I assume has the same Ip address?)...will this affect your rankings in google or anything pertaining to Google?
