I recently downloaded Xgram bot as an .exe format and realized it doesn't open on my Mac. After some research I found a free program called Wine that will run Windows programs on your Mac. I'm really having trouble getting this set up. Anyone familiar with Wine that could help me out or know any other way I can install Xgram on my Mac?

I use Virtual Box. It's free, owned by Oracle and is rock solid.

VMWare Fusion works like charm, and it has an great advantage: you can work with the windows desktop as if is a new window on the mac.
Meaning that you are working on both platforms like you are only on mac.

    Great :)

    There are 3 possibilities
    .... bootcamp its already installed
.... Or a visualization program .. virtualbox is free from oracle.
    .... wine

    windos must be installed
Boot camp you have to restart to change to windows.
Visualization is int he same screen in a window ... But windows is running much slower

    wine

    no windows needed.

Parallels works good for me, look for a torrent if you don't want to pay for it.

So, if you run wine properly, I'll be able to run .exe files on my mac? No need for windows software??? that's badass (if that's correct?)

I've used many different options over the years and the best two (by miles) are vmware and virtualbox, but if I ha d to choose it would be vmware - it's literally like taking over a pc with no lag (depending on your machine).

works like a charm...... haha... sometimes. It sucks when you're trying to program something needs to work in a windows environment, and it also sucks that it kills your performance......

I reccomend it over other services though.

When it comes down to it, sometimes it's just better to drop 200 bucks on a netbook.

No. Wine will emulate what some windows software will need to be able to run on a Mac, it is not full blown windows and will not run pretty much any slightly obscure software on a Mac. Your best options would be to use bootcamp where you can run anything at almost the speed of a regular windows machine. If you only want to run some windows software occasionally you could run pretty much any VM software that can run full windows but it will normally be at quite a performance deficit and can be frustrating at times.

Another option would be to get a VPS that can run 24/7 without having to have your local machine on.
