windows on a mac

Wasn't sure where to put this, please move if there is a better place

I only have a mac and I really really want scrapebox, so i'm going to have to add windows to my mac (which I really don't want to do!).

Anyone suggest the best way to do this so I can get scrapebox up and runnin'.

Why don't you download VBox*com (take out the "*" and replace with a "." - without quotes of course.)?

You should be able to run it and run any windows application/softwares to it and have the mac as well?

It's like hitting 2 birds with one stone.

if you're going to load up a "fresh" os and are planning on using something like VMWare or parallels, I'd suggest you load the OS on with bootcamp first then load it through those programs.

Seams to run cleaner for me for some reason, and if anything ever goes to hell you can flip into a native run of windows and run the prog from there....

I came across this issue last week. Finally gave in, and put XP on with parallels.

It runs scrapebox perfectly. You can also chose the level of integration you want.. so your mac doesn't just turn into windows. You should run parra's until you can get enough money together for a windows PC.. thats my plan.

Ebay... buy a white box OEM copy probably only cost you $25 and stands a better chance of not coming with a virus or backdoors ...

I tried to install Vbox on the bootcamp but it didn't accept it.

Do I install windows on bootcamp then run it through vbox?

I've got a Macbook and there's tons of programs that I need Windows to run 'em so I use Boot Camp. Out of all VM software it is the best and fastest because you're not running 2 OS's at once. You're focusing your whole computer into running Windows.

You have to restart your computer everytime you want to switch between Mac and Windows, but that's really no big deal for me for the speed it runs at. I've tried Parallels and other software like that, but it always runs painfully slow or crashes when I try to run big programs or I'm doing a lot of work.

The only downside is if you use 32 bit (which is normal for most people) bootcamp takes a chunk out of your ram in Windows. I just have 2gb and on Windows it's like 1.5 or something. 64 bit keeps all your ram intact, but there's some programs you can't run on a 64 bit.

It's kind of sad because I'm probably on the Windows side more than the Mac side

I run Windows XP on Parallels to run some of the Incansoft bots. I also plan on getting Scrapebox but have not done so yet. So I can't mention how that runs, but the others run fine. It will automatically allocate a certain amount of ram and change it accordingly depending on the demands of the windows virtual machine at the time.

I use window on my mac to. I use Parallel. It is amazing works like a sharm.

Bootcamp is a standalone system, so it's way better than Parallels or other shell-type programs that run inside the Mac OS. Also, don't let anyone tell you that you can't install a $40 OEM copy of Windows from eBay on Bootcamp. My install went fine, and it was my second install from that OEM. OEM Windows disks are supposed to "marry" the computer you install them on and become impossible to install on a second machine, but Bootcamp apparently didn't recognize the marriage.

If you've been using your Mac for a while and didn't partition it off for Bootcamp when you got it, you'll have to do a complete mirror backup to an external drive and reformat the hard drive before you can partition it. I gave it 50GB and used NTFS, not FAT32--faster and safer.
