Windows 8!!!!!!!!!

If Microsoft had kept the Start Menu and added Metro I would have given it a go in a few months; but shoving the touch interface down the throat of power desktop users doesn't sit well with me. I like flexibility and options and frankly touch screen gestures makes little sense in a desktop environment. Oh, I did software development and as mentioned before own numerous smartphones and tablets so I'm not some Luddite ranting from my cave.

I'm a big Microsoft supporter, I just setup a powerful video workstation for a third of the cost of a comparable Mac using Windows 7 64-bit but when a company is being stupid I tell it like it is. We had an old saying in product development about not wanting to call your baby ugly but Microsoft your new baby is ugly!

Personally, I would wait a few months before buying. As with any new OS, there will be some bugs and issues on release date. Microsoft and Video Game makers need time to patch their software to get it optimal with Win 8.
 
Wow, you guys have obviously never used Windows 8. If you don't like the new start screen, there's a hidden button to the far left of it that will list all the apps in the start menu, just like XP Vista or 7. Pretty sure there will be an option to disable it all together.

Windows 8 has a normal desktop environment just like Windows 7. You know what I'm talking about, the "My Computer" "Recycle Bin" icons, your ocean wallpaper, your taskbar, system tray, your apps running in a window, etc etc.
 
I was running windows 7 on my imac via parallels and that was beautiful. Just bought a windows 8 machine and regret it. It's more for a tablet or I can kinda see someone with a touch pc monitor using it.. But I am not liking it and it makes me appreciate what I have with 7. I like windows for the control and customization it allows me vs mac, but these "apps" give me no control over it and the skype app is the worst btw!
 
OK, so far I have seen ZERO reasons to buy Windows 8 - a few seconds faster boot-up doesn't really justify getting a new OS. I've seen some benchmarking tests and the difference b/n the performance of Windows 8 and Windows 7 is tiny.

Are there actually ANY advantages of switching to Windows 8? All I care about is productivity....
 
As others have said..... looks nice for a tablet, or phone... but why the f#ck would I want all that sh#t cluttering up my workspace. I don't need big Social Media, Calender, App Store Icons! Is this really what they expect professionals to use at the work place.
 
Based on the screenshots and the commercials i've seen..i feel like the desktop would drive me nuts..how do you even sort out all of that clutter that's already on the desktop?
 
Microsoft is just being Microsoft. They could giiev a fuck less what we want OR need, they decide what we will have and we either use it or go elsewhere, like they always have.

The best thing about it is there is now no reason not to go to Linux. If I am going to suffer thru a completely new learning cuure, I'll do it in Linux.

I can't even think of a business that would take the plunge with 8 considering the inefficiency it will cause in productivity alone. Add to it complete re-training of support staff, and you have a dog on your hands.

Can you imagine hiring a worker proficient on the computer, using today's business tools and plopping them down in front of this atrocity? They are not going to know how to do anything without extensive training, and the trainers have to be trained first.

Enterprise wise, this is absurd.
 
win7 here and I have no complaints with it, I don't see the point of switching to a software that prob isn't compatible with all my stuffs and most likely has tons of issues as all windows does.

I kind of like win7 since I have gotten used to it, but winxp media addition always was my fav.

Why don't companies improve what people already like rather then push new things every few years?
Oh, I know why, so they can choke us to death with apps we cant uninstall that run all the time and use up resources. :/

The new fancy start screen is only what you see when you press the Windows Key. If you want to see your desktop (like the one you're used to on Windows 7), there's a handful of ways to QUICKLY do that. You can either press the Desktop tile on the fancy new start screen, or you can do my favorite, pressing Windows Key + D on your keyboard.
 
Windows 8 truly is the largest bucket of cat piss that I have ever seen... What a monstrosity... Certainly not for business people
 
I got my new video workstation with all of the editing software working perfectly with Windows 7 but I am eligible for Windows 8. Yet, I can't think of one reason to make the migration to Windows 8. Yeah, 8 runs a little faster on some benchmarks and there's a couple of bells and whistle that look nice but frankly Metro belongs on a tablet!

This is a big fail on Microsoft's part when you can't get a new desktop user to migrate to a new OS!
