I'm thinking about trying Windows 8 instead of paying $140.00 for Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit. Anyone tried it?

Also, does anyone know how long MS lets you use the software, and what happens at the "end"? Do they turn it off, make you pay for it, etc?

Yes, I would like to know too. Don't want to upgrade and then have it shut off.

Haven't tried but Im in the same scenario as you.. will keep a close eye on this thread.

Downloaded from link posted in OP. Burned .ISO to DVD using MagicISO. Computer booted to Installation DVD, but would not upgrade from DVD, and said Upgrade had to be run from original/existing version of Windows (in my case WinXP Pro, 64-bit). Rebooted. (Lesson: Upgrade will not run unless you can successfully boot to desktop, and will not run straight from the Installation Disk.)

Decided I didn't care to keep the previous install and rebooted to the Installation Disk. Selected "New Install" (or whatever the exact text was).
Installation started, entered Product Key (from download site in OP), and at Stage 2 recieved the following message:

Windows Setup
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570

Repeated the process and received the same error message.

One possibility is that the disk is corrupt. The blank DVD is years old and even though it looks clean it may have scratches. I plan on making another to see how it goes. Also, the downloaded data may be corrupt.

This computer has had problems in the past. That's the reason why I'm messing with Win8. But if others have the same symptoms then it might be the data that's the problem, after all it is Beta.

What's the policy on this? If I install Win8, how long is it free before I have to pay for it?

Well Installed it a month ago and most of the software didn't run on it...
and after manually installing it with an option that i forgot, it get crashed after 10 days...
So, I have it on DVD but I really don't want to install because of program incompatibility

BTW it's 10x faster then windows 7
