Windows 8 - Anyone tried?

It sucks for a desktop but rock for a smartphone.

That's just a start actually. Other than start and shutdown Win8 performance-wise was similar to Windows 8 so no big deal. There are some nice bell and whistles, a better backup for example but there is really little that is compelling to make the switch. And everything is geared to gestures but really how many desktops have touch screens? Like I said earlier it's a marketing strategy implemented as a user interface. I'll wait a while before updating.

I have been using it for a couple weeks now. I personally really enjoy it. I dont understand everyones fuss about it being a touchscreen-like OS. Just because it has icons it has to be a touch screen? I enjoy the new format and think it is more efficient for getting things done for the most part. Although there are still a few things that i personally dislike about it but I believe they will get enough feedback from users on these and fix them.
Also to the people complaining about the loss of the start button. Its still there its just that it looks much different when you click on it. You can still find your programs and apps in the start button or just start typing like you would in the search bar of the start button. If you STILL do not like the loss of the familiar start button then there is a simple addon you can use to get it back.
There will also be things like smart-mice to do the gestures much faster which I will be investing in one as soon as they become available. Sure you have to learn a few new gestures but I think that is all part of the fun in learning a new OS and finding all of its new features.

Apple hit the nail on the head when they went with two separate OS's; one for tablets and one for desktops. Why the hell do I need to invest in a new mouse so I can emulate gestures designed for a touch screen when I own a desktop? Give me both options but don't force me to buy third party apps and new mouse so I can remain functional. I do real work with my PC if I want to jack off I got a tablet for doing that.
Microsoft saw how Apple calls the shots with the sheeples and they think they can do the same with their user base. But Microsoft is not Apple and they have pretty much made sure this OS remains a consumer release!
Frankly, Metro is basically Microsoft Bob with touch screen craplets and I am betting that Melinda Gates is having a bad case of the night terrors with this release!

The usual trend with windows is to skip one, 8 is one of the ones you skip....It seems that Microsoft plays up to this. Also windows 8 was designed with touchscreen capability as a focus so it will be hard for that not to conflict and detract from the majority of users on standard laptops and desktops, new OS's are always really buggy and need work for a while after release. Windows 7 will be the best windows for at least another year.

I bought a windows 8 super laptop and the f keys were all funched. Required 3 buttons to alt f4 . opened photoshop graphics card died. i can say that if i didnt know all the shortcut keys to windows i wouldve never been able to use the cpu. so u need like windows E a ton to open files. I took it back. i tried the tablet . once i couldnt install firefox on the tablet i took it back. the development end is missing in the windows 8 system so until they fix it done..... it is a consumer based cpu for ppl who would never need otherwise.
