Windows 11, Should I upgrade or not?

Hi everyone.

I know Blackbeans asked this question in April but I just wanted your latest opinions. My son gave me his laptop as he doesn't use it which is Windows 11 compatable to replace my old slow laptop.

Have you upgraded and kept it or upgraded and downgraded again?

Your slow laptop will only get slower. That's what happens. The software doesn't get less compact or easier to run usually! lol, unfortunately

Edit, Ah sorry, you are getting a faster one! Yes, in that case, defo upgrade, I'm waiting till next year, and I upgrade my PC fresh first.
 
I upgraded in January 2022 and it's been a smooth experience till now. You should definitely consider upgrading.

Is this an objective truth??... because what i'm seeing is apparently more efficient use of hardware's built-in virtualisation components that are making windows 11 run faster and smoother than 10?

My old laptop was straight out near-usuable at Win8, when I went to Win10 it became useable
Didn't notice much of a decrease at WIn11 either.
Although I went back to Win10 since there just too many little features I enjoy from 10 that 11 does not have.

I can't remember a windows os upgrade that didn't make this claim, and yet everyone complained of the opposite, or the minimum specs didn't reflect it. I can remember as far back as Windows 98 making this same claim with some sort of new technology implementation! lol

EDIT: @xReminisce I think even a quantum computer wouldn't be stable with windows 8! lol

Nobody knows. I use computers mostly for work. As you would guess, there is thing called “workflow”. If I was given a windows machine right now, i’d only be 50% as productive as I am with mac/linux. So yeah, depends.

First install that os as a virtual machine. Find out if it works for you. If it does, nobody is gonna stop you from upgrading. If not, you know what to do. :)
 
If you only have some easy workflows like open browsers, watch some threads, type sth in the Word, you can use any versions.

But if you wanna play games, running professional softwares, its not wise to upgrade to 11, 10 is stable and compatible with everything, while 11 will not in a near future.
 
Windows 11 has been fine on my main computer. I haven't noticed any issues, but I never benchmarked it and compared it to Windows 10.

On my Acer Aspire E15 (i3 6th Gen 6006U, upgraded to an SSD and I upgraded it to 8GB of RAM), Windows 11 made the laptop extremely slow. I tried to make it work, but I ended up reinstalling Windows 10. I don't know why it wasn't compatible with my laptop, and frankly, I don't care either.
 
Well I decided to upgrade, the only difference I have noticed is when I click on a button for example, it doesn't always open the first time, which is annoying.
 
Windows 11 is a promising upgrade from Windows. It has excellent features and works faster too. I would definitely recommend it.
 
Might as well. If I had a windows computer I would upgrade. I was really happy when I upgraded to 10 from 8. Unless I was one of the unfortunate people who’s hardware has been made obsolete by Microsoft, and not allowed to upgrade. :(
