Will this work? authority/niche website affiliate marketing

Hi guys, I am a total newbie but today will be the start of my IM endeavours. After reading Meathead1234's thread. I will try his method with my own twist and wonder if it will work. It will be something like this:

For example; the technology niche> smart wearables. I will build a website called smartwearables as the vertical. With categories such as smart watches, smart pants, smart headsets, kids toys wearables etc. I will first write awesome content (1000-2000 words) in those categories. Fill my website with 15 or so articles to start with and then posting to forums, fb pages etc to get backlinks, and of course do some basic SEO.

I am in debate with myself wether I should first write great content(without any aff links or ''sales pitch), give value to establish myself as authority and rank my website first, so to have more traffic and a reader base. THEN put the affiliate links in some articles, writing new articles along with articles with some affiliate links. Maybe a (free) e-book later on.

OR

Start right away on website launch articles with affiliate links and also make some leadpages to the affiliate sites for conversion.

So the question basically is: should I give value first and then do the ''sale'' later after -- lets say 1 or 2 months or just go for the kill on launch day?

Honestly, I'd say there's no need to wait, but that's more because I want to set and forget my articles rather than having to go back in and insert links, etc. I'm not sure I follow what you mean by giving out your content for free. Are you planning on guest posting without having a site of your own yet? I think you'll find that to be a very difficult play. I think for now prioritize building up your site and filling it with well-optimized and strong content. Put your effort into building a property that will hold long term value.

No I will not do guest posting. I will use meatheads way of getting juice from forums and G-alert. I guess that's the most newbie friendly way of starting out so I will do just that.
