    Hi,

    Im new to BH stuff and want to start cloaking pages direct to affiliate links. Can someone tell me if this will work:

    1. Get a page indexed in google.
    2. Block google from crawling the page via robots.txt
    3. Meta refesh the page to affiliate link.

    The downfall I see is that perhaps the robots.txt block will drop the page from the serp's- can anyone confirm? If not then i dont see any reason why this wont work- Google always obey robots.txt so the only reason it will get caught is if a competitor reports it, right? or wrong?

    Thanks

    This is an old trick used in the past - You will need a sophisticated script or build one yourself.

    There's an old script called fantomas phantom maker which you can use to cloak :)

    If you don't allow Google to crawl your site they will remove you from the serp.

    But robots.txt is a crawl directive, not an indexing directive such as the no index meta tag. I'm talking about getting a page indexed and then adding a refresh tag. So essentially-blocking one url only, not an entire site.

    Any other thoughts here please?

    @jonnoe that's not the case.

    If you disallow a bot, it won't visit your site at all, aka it won't be able to index it. Also your competitors will BE able to track your site - redirection as the disallow will probably refer to bots that obey the robots txt. Ahrefs, seo spyglass and other seo spy bots usually don't respect robots.txt, so even if you add a robots.txt and block google, this doesn't mean that the other bots won't notice it. From my perspective you'll ban google (so you won't move any link juice) and the competitors will think that you did a redirect...

    Cloaking works, do not do the block google though.

    Take a look at the videos here and you will get an idea of cloaking.

    I'm not talong about blocking google all together. Read the op again:

    1. Get a page indexed and ranking.
    2. Block that specific page in robots txt once ranking.
    3. Meta refresh the page to affiliate link.

    Or make php and redirect if not google bot(user agent), there was a post about this a long time ago and used to work...

    **This is for cloaking links - so probably not what the OP is talking about, but anyway:**

    All I do (Wordpress makes this easy) is:

    1) Get page ranking for keyword;
    2) From that page link to another page on my website;
    3) Block Google from that 2nd page by making it noindex, and the link nofollow;
    4) 301 that page to wherever you like.

    If you really wanted to go mad you could do 301>301>301>301>301>301>301>301>301>301>301etc then 301>wherever

    Google won't follow 301's to an infinite level.

    OP, if you rank, and then block the crawler to use " meta http-equiv="refresh" " you will lose your rank. No doubt about it.... but the moment you take away the "refresh" part you will get back your ranking.

    it takes a couple of days or maybe a week for this changes to take effect. I made a similar experiment a year ago. Have a nice day.

    Thanks. How does that work then? Google are still crawling that page despite being blocked in robots.txt?
